Welcome to Pet Portraits by Monika Murray

Something Different. Something Special – pastel pet portraits from a photo.

Big Birthday, Anniversary or just an indulgent treat for yourself, look no further.

Drawing is so much more enjoyable if one is passionate about the subject matter. I began by drawing my children and grandchildren but then decided to try new subjects. As a lover of animals, pet portraits were an obvious choice and I haven’t looked back since.

I have been drawing pastel pet portraits from a photo for a number of years, starting off by doing drawings as gifts for family members where there was no shortage of pets to draw!  From there I moved on to requests from friends, and friends-of-friends by word of mouth. Now my passion is my hobby, and my hobby became a business for all to order their pastel pet portrait from a photo.

Over the years my style has altered, originally being in pencil but I now prefer pastel pet portraits.  I used to draw with fine detail, but have found a softer way of creating a pet’s character.  The eyes are my absolute favourite thing to draw and this is where I like to spend time as I believe that this is where the soul of the animal can be found. A beautiful insight to the character where I can find a certain affinity with the animal by producing the eyes that I  know can be the making of the drawing.

Pastel Pet Portraits – A very special gift

Gifts for some people can be a real problem but perhaps you haven’t thought of a having a pastel pet portrait from a photo before or even treating yourself.  I love photographs and know that they have a real place in our lives but with animals it is so difficult to ‘get it right’ which is where a drawing can take precedence.  Nothing can bring more pleasure than a framed portrait of a pet that has meant so much, that has shared so many years, been a beloved companion and given so much devotion to its owner. Now is the time to find a special space on the wall.
